Glenorchy Charities 2021

GLENORCHY MISSION CHARITIES 2021

Each year Glenorchy Church normally chooses three different charities to support through our Mission Box Scheme* and special events, such as our Garden Party and Mission Concert or Tea Party. Please remember these charities and those who require help from them in your prayers.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, activities came to a standstill during 2020, including fundraising efforts for our three mission projects. The decision was therefore taken to continue support for the same organisations for a further year in the hope of being able to do more during 2021.

Events were still very limited, but include stalls at the Saturday coffee morning, a concert in October and an afternoon of “favourite prose and poetry” in November. There was also a generous response to an appeal for people to continue giving donations for Mission Sunday, even if they were not able to be in church on the day.

Our three chosen 2021 charities have continued to work hard during the pandemic:
1. Rehoboth:  Mark and Dorcas and their adopted family tell of continuing hardship in Zimbabwe, with hyper-inflation and political instability; somehow they keep going and really help those whom they serve.
2. The Prison Fellowship has sustained its activities during the pandemic, with extra pressure on prisoners and their families;
3. The Bible Society often distributes other things alongside scriptures when working in seriously deprived countries – and there are still languages without a translated Bible however hard that is to believe!

*Mission boxes: newer church members may not be familiar with the Mission Box Scheme. These boxes are made available for use at home. Sometimes kept on a mantelpiece, where visitors might see them, sometimes in the kitchen to help offload heavy pockets of loose cash. Church members who have joined our GiftAid Scheme are requested to put their name or GiftAid No. on or in the boxes.
